Ada Byron: Lady of the Digital era
At the present time, a technology of computer is modern and interesting in the globalization more than the past because of the growth of society and the development of communication in the world. Then a computer is one of the most important things in people’s life. This machine has 2 parts that consists of hardware and software. However, many people could know and learn about the software more than the hardware because we are a general user and manage only essential applications in our computers. On the other hand, we don’t know much about the origin and history of the application and the software. For instance, we don’t know how to make a good application from the old theory. From these reasons, we should know the profile of the person who is a mathematician in the first generation of the world. Her ideas were given to improve and develop the software in the present. Her name is “Ada Byron.” Moreover, we will know more about her life, research, and evolution ideas.
Ada Byron is the first programmer of the world. She was born on 10 December, 1815 in London, England. Her father’s name is Lord Byron and her mother’s name is Anabel Milban. Besides, her mother was a famous mathematician in that era. After her parents divorced, she stayed with her mother all the time. Moreover, she learned more sciences and mathematics such as algebra, logic and calculus from her mother. Therefore, she liked mathematics very much. Despite the fact that her mother tried to train her to know more in mathematics, she still liked and interested in poetry like her father too. When she was 17 years old, she had a chance to meet Mrs. Somerville who is a genius lady of Cambridge at the party in London. She had translated the Laplace‘s thesis in English version. Furthermore, Ada met Charl Babbage at the first time in this party, too. Once a day, Ada had a chance to talk with him about how to make a calculator had more efficient to react and do many things more than the past. She was interested in his project very much. Then, she tried to help him in the part of programming and built the language for the Babbage’s analytical engine. In addition, she always tried to learn and search about mathematical programs for the analytical engine and improved it better.
During the time she was alive; she had a chance to talk with Charl Babbage about how to calculate the mechanical engine. He has the ideas about how to build a good machine to calculate the result correctly and accurately. From this reason, Ada had a good impression in his ideas and tried to follow his working all the time. During a period in 1843, Ada translated Babbage’s thesis in French language. After that, she gave the notes to him for checking and considering. Babbage suggested her to add more features and ideas in his project. When she finished it, the notes were longer than the old version and included in complete detail for calculating Bernoulli numbers with the engine. Moreover, she predicted the capability of this engine in other factors such as graphical, musical, and scientific and presented her technique about how to do a good program in the engine by using a loop and subroutine in application. These techniques will help you to write good software and decrease the mistakes from errors in the longer coding. We can observe that her ideas are the important ways to develop the software in the present.
Ada died at the age of thirty-six on 27 November, 1852 with uterine cancer and bloodletting by her physicians. She was interested in many things in her life such as music, jockey, and calculator engine. She is beautiful and charming to every people around her. Therefore, most scientists know her well including the people who were interested in computer. Over one hundred years after her death in 1979, the Ministry of Defense wrote a computer language as follow the ISO standard and gave the name for this language is “ADA.” Even though she doesn’t stay alive in the world, the people will remember her in their hearts and keep her ideas to develop and apply the software.
In conclusion, if we don’t have a good programmer in the past, we may not have a chance to learn and know the computer languages. In my opinion, programming is one of the important parts in computer because it will control every hardware and operating systems in our computer. Besides, the logic idea is a basic of good programming and helps to analyze the process of application the same as Ada’s ideas.
